I have an AW 4 aluminium at the moment (I know, behind the times) and I’m looking to upgrade this year. The fact that all Apple Watches look the same and I like the idea of something different has me leaning towards either the Stainless Steel or going big and going for the Ultra! I’m female and don’t have really big wrists although I did try the ultra and I think I could get used to the size, it definitely doesn’t look as ‘smart’ as the ss though and I wonder if I would regret it?
Any thoughts from people who have been in the same sort of position?
I feel under pressure to decide quickly incase they go on sale for order after the announcements today.

I would go in a store and try how the Ultra feels on your wrist… then look at the event and specs if the size of new Ultra is similar.

I also have the 4 only mine is the SS. I think I am going to upgrade but not the Ultra. It’s too big for me so I will go with th SS again. I have had the very first one in SS and the 4 in SS. I don’t upgrade every year ( ( obviously) so I will buy the SS again. I have never had a scratch on either on.

So I ordered the S9 SS last night with Milanese loop, today I’m not sure if I’m regretting my choices. Wondering if I should have gone for a sports loop since that’s normally what I wear and I do a lot of walking, then I wonder if I should’ve just went straight to the ultra. Should I order the ultra and decide then send one back. Oh decisions!

I always think that the Apple Watch looks a little too dressy for casual wear, but the titanium and stainless steel watches look great for smart wear. I’ve always gone with stainless steel but I switched to the ultra last year and although it’s not as dressy as the rest of the range, it looks really good for casual wear and with the right band, it’s fine when suited and booted for work. I just wish that they have bought a darker titanium as that would’ve been perfect.

Order both and check them out for 14 days.

I ordered my AW9 with the wrong loop because they were out of magnetic loops.

Hoping within 14 days my loop shows up; if not, I will have to return it and repurchase it again when they have stock.

Silly of Apple to advertise a band and not have it available - then be rude to the customer pre-ordering by saying I should wait...

I am a female and I wore the Ultra from November till March. I took a look in the mirror while dressing for my anniversary and it looked comical. My adult son is now the proud owner of that Ultra. It was just too clunky on me. I found some great deals on Series 7 stainless and I’m happy I did. I don’t go many places and I live in sweat pants and oversized teeshirts (retired), but my watch, dressed up with my many watchbands, looks great.

My recommendation, go with the stainless. You won’t regret it.

Thank you so much for all of your replies, I did go ahead and order the SS but have had multiple times in the last few days where I’ve wondered if I’m making the right decision. It is a lot of money to spend either way. I think I’m going to be sticking with my decision. Excited to get it now!

Good choice. As usual, my suggestion is to buy AppleCare+ with watches it can be very useful even if SS scratches less the cost of reparations and battery replacement are very high otherwise. If not right with the purchase you can wait some day according to your country rules but don’t let this time expire!

I was thinking about getting the U2 but I see it only comes in that silvery colour, which doesn't suit me, so that ended that path.

I noticed today at the supermarket a young lady wearing the Ultra and, while she was taller and more robust than average females (not overweight mind you), the watch looked too big on her wrist and completely out of style with the rest of the outfit. I believe the regular SS looks better and more stylish for daily wear.

All you can do is go into a store and see for yourself. I ended up buying a SS over the Ultra, but ultimately it's a personal thing.
