I see your point. I'm an upper-middle kid, and my family could do this if they wanted to. My mom said that families should get a discount if they get more than one computer, like %10 off the second %20 off all computers after 2! I think that would give families a big incentive to buy more than one.

What part of Maryland are you from? Sounds like Chevy Chase or Bethesda!

Do you goto Whitman or Churchill HS?

I'm origionally from Montgomery Village, went to Watkins Mill...but now I call NYC my home, it's better here :D

also, since you havent replied in the other thread....I'll email you the specs of the new towers when theyre released. just pm me if yuou want and give me the camps email address...also, just wondering if the camp is actually Capital Camps?

DDR!

I don't think they'll split the motherboards up
It wouldn't be "prudent at this juncture".
It wouldn't be forward thinking and it would be a harder sell to have pc133 ram instead
of DDR for the base line "pro systems"

:p

PERIOD!

JOBs has GOT to know this.

thats not true. They'll sell, just not well.

I'll buy one even without DDR BUT I will be incredably pissed! I didnt buy a dual 1Ghz because of the lack of DDR and I needed a new tower then. I cant wait any longer and still get work done. My machine is too out dated.

a PC is unacceptable to me, and so, if there is no DDR, I just will deal without it.:( I will be VERY angry though.....but I will buy.

Even if Apple doesn't use DDR in the towers, I am sure they will do something to make them attractive enough to sell them. But, with DDR in the Xserve, I don't think it will be too hard for them to put it into the towers as well.

We have ~10 days to find out what is going to happen... Only time will tell.

I was well into my stride yesterday, posting a reply on the "Rebirth of the Cube" thread, when I stumbled upon a rather interesting theory...

What if an optical drive manufacturer had finally cracked the problem of the slot-loading SuperDrive?

TiBook upgrades (and therefore Cube upgrades, for the loyal followers...) at MWNY.

Not only that - a complete redesign of the iMac for next year's MWSF (at the earliest - after all, the new design's only just come out). I'm predicting a 17-18" LCD with slot-loading SuperDrive and motherboard all resident behind the screen - perhaps with handwriting recognition directly to the LCD - all thanks to the Jaguar build. Picture the Wacom Cintiq, and you might get the idea...

Well - Steve let the cat out of the bag at the launch of the Luxo Lamp iMac, when he said that the all-in-one design couldn't work because of technological limitations with the drive.

Now, well...

;)

"As one door closes, another opens..."

It's purely speculative, but it's definitely on the cards. Think about it -

Location, location, location.
The number 1 rule in Real Estate (no - I'm not an estate agent... lol!). But people do want to reclaim their desks. No consumer wants big and bulky anymore - just look at how successful the iMac was/is.

Jaguar offers handwriting recognition.
What better way to utilise the old Newton technology integrated into the new OS. And writing onto a screen that contains text and images would feel far more natural than writing on a small pad.

People want "sexy".
Apple products are attractive to look at, especially compared to the beige boxes that still grace the PC shelves. But now, the others are catching up - either by using Apple's design standards, or by inventing their own wacky interpretations of the future. That's why a one-piece screen/G4 motherboard/SuperDrive configuration would be totally unbeatable. And a complete show-stopper.

"Mini-me"...
All of this talk of a PDA may be closer to the truth than you think. OK - so what if the idea of a one-piece LCD iMac with a SuperDrive that looks in it's entirety no bigger than an existing 17" monitor may be correct? Imagine a small colour LCD PDA, virtually identical in design to it's bigger sibling, running a cut-down version of X - complete with handwriting technology handed down from the Newton. With it, you can take your work anywhere you want with complete confidence of compatibility - because it fits with it's older brother like a glove, via the proven FireWire link and it's 10Gb hard drive.

Maybe they are just pipe dreams...

...but - what if?

;) (Coming to a town near you - soon)

Not exactly, look at PC's and how they sell. Actually only one PC company (IBM) does all-in one, the Netvista and according to IBM sales of the product were "very dissapointing".

All in one just doesn't work with PC's...

NB: Dell said he wants to do the same thing, the man just can't take a hint ;)

IBM's design

The man didnt say that all all-in-ones will succeed like the imac did. Look at emachine... hell look at the small MSN WinCE computer that walmart cant push on people for $40. IBM simply made a bad, boxy lokin piece of crap that was not flexible in any sense.
As a matter of fact, the product designers at IBM seem to be stuck in the 1960's pop culture. Their flat screens have white blue and orange WAVY BUTTONS. Hideous. They made good with keeping a logo that stays fresh even after 120 years, but they need to do something about the blind chimps designing their cases.

Hey, I haven't gone Mac... yet (I'm mainly at sites like this so that I can get myself acclimated). However, we do indeed have Mac users in the area. Probably the most well-known is Patrick Gant, also known as one of the "switchers" in Apple's TV ads. :) I know at least one other Mac user myself.

By the way, if you ever want to "geek out" and check out some Macs but don't want to head to that B.Mac store on the West end, the University of Ottawa campus bookstore currently has an iBook, Powerbook, PowerMac G4 and (of course) the new iMac on display. I know that they used to have an eMac on display but it's presumably been sold.

Yeah, I know. I actually go to that university (unfortunately) ;). I plan on getting either an ibook or a TiBook in a couple of years there. The educational discount is amazing!

Wow, I didnt know there were so many of us U of Ottawa people here!! I'm doing my M.Sc in Molecular Medicine.

I have found the U of O bookstore to be quite a pain as far as buying a Mac. Granted, they have a very good stock, but if you want one, you have to wait for their order to come in. Annoying if you need a computer fast (which I did, last year)
