I work out at least 5 days a week, even if it's just dragging myself to the gym to do a single bodypart split and 20 minutes of cardio and then some crunches and sitting in the jacuzzi and steam room to treat myself.

That's a damned good idea : choosing a gym that has a hot tub or sauna, so it's not all about working hard, but also includes some well-earned relaxation time.

It's on some days the only thing that gets me there! It's made even better with friends and workout partners, too. Skip the beer and nachos at the bar after work and get the endorphine rush and jacuzzi relaxation daze after work instead.

My piece of advice is, try different things and do what works for you. I am a solitary person by nature. I have tried hooking up with a workout partner and it really sucked to have to go by her schedule. I want to work out when I want to work out, and to constantly skip around or stick to one designated time was more destructive than helpful. But that's me. That may not work for others and that's ok. Do what works. Also, variety is key. Doing different activities will keep you more interested and motivated. Just try to feel yourself out and find the pattern that works for you.

If any of you saw how I cycle you'd know what motivates me.

(those who were aware of last years picnic happenings know what I'm like)

I started out working out 5 times a week two years ago, after six months or so that went down to 4, now I'm at 3 times a week, and this is probably where it will stay, certainly no less. I split areas I work out over the different days so that I am able to squeeze as much as possible out of the given muscles on that day.

Motivation? I quite like the feeling of being sore from exercise, makes you feel you've done something and you feel all tight from it <- good thing! It's also great when you see someone bigger than you have to drop the weight on the machine you just finished on :D

I wouldn't say its entirely useless. I maintain my weight by giving myself a 'bad' day to get out my urges (not really trash just more food) and eat a well balanced diet end of the week but I'd say the excercise definitely helps keep it off.

true viccles. don't get me wrong...i treat myself once a week, but not for a day.
my point wasn't not to treat - i should have stated that "you need to right the entire week, except for a treat" in order to keep the weight off. of course, if you have a treat every day...yes, you can probably keep the weight off, but you're really just working harder than you need to.

for anyone out there, interested in seeing the program i mentioned wrt to completely different every day. here it is:

I need to be added to that category too. It's a very good thing to see somebody's face light up when your clothes come off. :)

Usually that's just light reflecting off my horribly pale body.

I have a nice farmers tan and in the summer get an odd helmet sunglasses tan from cycling so much. It's so very sad when you can tell were your helmet straps were from your tan.

Amen to that. I just finished my run-til-you-drop (now at 9.1 mph) and this guy who looks like Viggo Mortensen comes up to me and said something to the effect that he was impressed. He said he was working out slowly because of a back injury he got as a firefighter.
I really didn't hear what else he was saying (I was too gaa-gaa), and it doesn't matter that he didn't specify what exactly was impressive, or whether he was lying. Yup; totally gratifying, though honestly, I exercise for me; the body and kudos are extras.

you bet i exercise!

actually i just lift weights to get bigger. now that kind of motivation is tough... at the start i started lifting because i felt myself getting unfit, and dind't like the feeling + friends were saying that i should start weights (i was a bit skinny). i didn't have a problem with that, but it turns out i chose weight training as the way to get fit, and liked it.

so it's been about 4 years now since i started. each workout - either heavier weight or more reps. you get to a point with that where you wonder if you can go any further. but there's one story written by Ron Harris (the bodybuilder) that really helped me with the motivation. it was basically about a young guy who wanted a pro to train him. so he took him to the beach, and held this young guys head under the water. then he finally came up gasping for air, the pro says "remember how much you wanted that next breath of air while you were under the water. that's the kind of desire you need to have for being a pro."

now while i'm not aiming to be pro or anything like that, but that's the kind of dedication you need, if you really want results.

like Big Ronnie says "ain't nothin' to it but to do it!"

Hey, we can't help the fact that we both have amazing bodies. It's a simple fact, not a matter of opinion. Just ask leekohler for instance (since he seems to have recently posted) or any of the female MacRumors members as well... ;) :D

Vain is a skill (as opposed to veins). I'm so vain I crashed my scooter 'cause I was looking at my reflection in a building window rather than looking at the road.

Good quotes and motivation. I have the hardest time (a) plotting time for "getting to the gym," as once I'm there I'm good and I'm gonna work out, and (b) making myself choke down that second boring chicken breast or lumpy protein shake. I just remind myself of what other guys do and how stoked they must be every time they try on a new shirt or take their shirt off at the beach or some guy comes up to them and tells them how big they are or how good they look. I want that. I won't ever be a pro, but I know I can look good and get pretty big.

Phew, I thought I was the only one that's happened to...

Hey, we can be blamed for admiring beauty though, can we?

Ouch, I didn't know I came off that bad :D

To be fair though, I just tend not to post here about the ****** stuff. Who needs that?

This chick last night asked me "do you always look at yourself in the mirror before going to bed?" You know you're vain, when you're ignoring a naked chick to check yourself out :p
