Expanding Text Messages View

The keyboard always takes up half the screen when viewing a thread of text messages. I need to click "Messages", choose another person's texts.. then hit "Messages" again, then return to the first person I was wanting to view full screen. Is there any way to simply toggle the keyboard view on and off?

if your jailbroken try BiteSMS overall better sms app and it hides the keyboard if your tap on the coversation part of the screen
