I know it may only be around $15 but is there actually a delivery time difference? Is it like shipping something via Air compared to Ground when it arrives the U.S.? I am currently residing in California by the way.

Order regular shipping then call a couple of days later and request expedited shipping. You'll get it upgraded for free! Save your $15 towards a nice case instead ;)

My guess that this is a hit or miss occurrence. Any other experiences?

I'm in CA too and it only took three days for the computer to get here from China.

They estimated a week but it was just a few days.

China --> Anchorage --> Memphis --> Las Vegas --> Here.

.006% difference.

After averaging my last three BTO MBP orders I come up with .005% :D

Here's what I like to do. Place my BTO MBP order on a Saturday morning. In doing so, I'm assured it always arrives the following week, usually Thursday.

Apples the best when it comes to online ordering & shipping reliability. As long as it's not during a "peak period" like holidays you're set :)

Honestly, half the time if you just call apple up and ask about the status of your order they'll go ahead and upgrade your shipping for you. They're pretty liberal with that stuff.

Agreed, I ordered another rMBP and called simply to ask for upgraded shipping and they did it, no questions asked. I did this because I am moving on the day it said my rMBP was to arrive so I needed to upgrade the shipping anyways.

Do you think that they can proactively upgrade the shipping method while in transit? From where I used to work which had a shipping department, this was not possible. Did you receive actual proof that your shipment method was upgraded?

What a waste of Apple's money if they actually expedite the shipping.

They should ship using USPS so the government can get more money back though :)

Just called and got upgraded shipping at no cost.

My order is still in the "processing items" stage. Should I just call customer service and say I want shipping upgraded, or is there a specific way you worded it to get it for free?

This is my past experience too, three or four days normal delivery.

However, I'm currently waiting for my MBPr to arrive as TNT decided to send it on a detour to the opposite side of Australia. It should have been here on Friday, it came from Shanghai to Sydney and then should have been a quick flight over to Tasmania the next morning, but when I checked online, it had gone to Perth, WA. So, now I'm having to wait patiently over the weekend hoping it'll have completed it's additional 8000km journey.

As far as upgrading the method while in transit, I don't think they can but it never hurts to check. All I know is they can put in requests to change the delivery address but even that is left up to FedEx to approve or deny.

And yes; my order status page reflected the change and said "Delivers by ______ via 2-3 day shipping". Both the delivery method and estimated delivery date were updated.

For a 2-3 day difference I felt it wasn't worth it on my order. As it is, it came on the "Express" truck rather than the ground truck I would have expected it to come on. As it is, for not upgrading the shipping, a little over a week from the day I ordered it arrived, with a holiday in the middle (ordered 6/30, arrived 7/9).

I told them that I wanted to upgrade my shipping. She said ok and said she would do it at no extra charge. My order is processing as well.

This worked, with no problems at all. The guy joked that it was going to cost $396. Apple CS is definitely very liberal with this, and they will give it to you for free without you even asking.

:O Is this method actually a guarantee to get free shipping?? I must try this, it's a holiday today in Canada and I'm not sure if it affects the shipping :( Ordered mine on Aug 3rd and its arrival on the site says 20-22! This is beyond the 5-7 day shipping time :(

I've been dreaming about my rMBP for the past couple days LOL

Ordered mine on 8/1 (2.6/16/512). Called Saturday to upgrade shipping. They shipped it this morning and I should have it 8/9. Can't wait. My 2006 MPB is driving me nuts with how slow it is...

The kids are inheriting the old one...

I ordered on the 4th and my estimate is also 20-22. The 5-7 is an estimate of days until dispatch, not delivery :(. Still seems incredibly slow, and we don't even get the option of upgraded delivery in the UK (wtf). I really hope they overestimated the time!

I hope so too! Apple just sent me and email and I got very excited, until I read the details it was only the gift card :( LOL

It's amazing that you've been using the 2006 MBP for 6 years now!
