In an effort to make the guides and forums more integrated and useful, I spent some time added a bbcode to integrate guide articles.
As a test, I've included the appropriate tag into:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/373263/
as you can see the entire guide is embedded into the post. I guess I see this as an experimental feature. I don't want to see guides embedded in every post where a link would suffice. However, I think for certain threads, such as the List of Apps not compatible with Leopard, it serves a good purpose. Providing an updated list as the thread goes on. It removes the responsibility for the individual thread starter to continue to update the post over time, as anyone (with 5 posts) can.
Typically people just provide a link to the thread, but I think people are less likely to update the wiki page in that situation.
The tag is [embedguide]Guidename[/embedguide]
I guess this thread is for feedback, and if you use the tag, please link it in a reply here so we can see how this will work and how useful it is.
- Of note, it uses Javascript to display the contents, so if you don't have javascript enabled, it will simply link to the guide.
- Contents of the page are pulled from the Wiki with a 5 minute cache. So content on the page will be delayed by 5 minutes from the actual wiki. This means if you go make an wiki edit, you won't see the results right away in the thread. (the wiki will show the changes right away)
