How was your experience getting your new phone, because I got mine at BestBuy and I have to say the two ppl there helping me, did a great job and it was quick and right to the point even exchanging my 3G. There was some issues calling AT&T but they were able to resolve it right in the store without calling AT&T. Customer Service at AT&T was looking at a 1 Hour hold time, Yikes, but the two Mobile Specialists were able to exchange my 3G for the 3GS without a hitch, everything works.:D

How was your Experience
 
Yeah dude! Looks like BB was the best way to do it, very easy, first in line, no one else there, relaxed, no anxiety, CSR were actually really cool, knowledgable, and cared about my frenzied feeling about getting the 3GS....MUCH PROPS!
 
I had "night and day" experiences.

First I went the the ATT store near me and told the manager at the store that I wanted a white 32GB 3G S. He said he would have to check on that model. I waited an hour with my son and when I got to the CSR, she told me they didn't have a white 32GB. Spoke with the manager before leaving.

Went to the nearest Apple store, went in, was treated like royalty and was out in 10 minutes. Loved that experience! It gave me a teaching opportunity with my son about Customer Service.
 
It was pretty painless for me. It worked out well because I saw phish in Pittsburgh last night and drove back to Ann Arbor after the show. Got into town just in time to get line when the Briarwood Apple Store opened at 7am. I didn't reserve one ahead of time which worked out well. There were 4 people ahead of me and only a few behind. The reservation line was HUGE.

Seriously, though, I was quite impressed with how well Apple was managing the 3GS launch.
 
My experience has been painful because I still havent recieved mine and still have no info on where its at. I hope I dont regret going and buying a iphone from ATT.
 
Came via FedEx around noon. Stopped by BB on the way home to get a film cover for the face (whether I got a good one is yet to be determind). Had an issue with keychain, which I fixed quickly after a Google search and useful message board post (I think it was 9807).

Only problem is I don't know how to import data from my other iPhone. I have gas stats for about six months which I would REALLY like to keep. Everything else is pretty unimportant, but I'd REALLY REALLY like that stuff.
 
Received my black 32GS from Apple via FedEX. Activation was a breeze. But initally starting some standard apps, setting up email took some time because of verification lag. Likely because of the mass activations. Works great now.
 
Best Buy treated me with a lot of respect and like they cared about my purchase even though it was an exchange from a 3G 16GB White to getting my new 3GS 16GB White. I pre-ordered it on Monday and they called me not only to see how I like my 3G, but to let me know they would be getting the 3GS's in around 12 PM Friday, however a Mobile CSR called me at 10 am to let me know they came in early. Went I got there they had a tag wrapped around mine, and there were only a few ppl that had picked up their's before mine, so they unpacked it, wrapped up my 3G provided me with all the receipts, etc. and I bought a case even though I am careful. They even made me call them, they called me, asked me to setup my email and test everything before I walked out the store, no problems at all.

This is an Extremely Satisfied BestBuy Customer, I just hope everyone gets their wish or has a good experience as I and some others have.

The Apple Store in Keystone bar-none has the best customer service.

I walked up to the line at 3:00 PM today (no one was in it) and while the guy said I may have to wait 10 minutes, a man came up instantly and got me all set up with the film, applecare, and white 16gb.

I have great relations with the manager, who is fantastic btw. He saw me, greeted me with a hello, was happy I purchased the device and we talked up a little about the excitement of the store there. While there were a lot of people, everyone was taken care of just fine.

In and out in 20 minutes. Can't beat it!
 
Oh God. Let me try to not vent too hard, my situation:

I pre-ordered a few days after WWDC09. I bought the 3G back in July, and also ws eligible for the $199/$299. I get to the Apple Store at 7am, finally get in the guy scans the iPhone and says "your account isn't eligible, but you fall in the new upgrade period, blah blah" so they call AT&T to bypass the eligibility, and instead, AT&T activates the phone and now Apple can't sell me the device, and sent me to AT&T store to roll back my account, and they didn't help me there, came back to Apple, they tell me I have to wait 24 - 72 hours to reset my upgrade eligibility so I can purchase the already activated iPhone 3GS that's sitting in the Apple Store. Wasted half a day, accomplished nothing. Woooo.
 
I picked up mine at a local apple store, got there at 5, they opened at 6:30, I was 4th in line, everything went smooth, they had a ton of people on staff. Great overall experience. I already had a 2G and reserved a 3GS at this store. They had all the reserved phones on a list and checked everyone off as they came thru, very organized and fast this year.
 
I went after work. In line at 12, home with new phone by one. Totally better than last year's hours and hours and hours.
 
after what seemed like an eternity waiting the the ups site to update from IMPORT SCAN IN HONG KONG, it updated today at 6am.
then it was delivered to my doorstep from apple/ups at around 10:50am

It was great each year got better, apple store valley fair in San Jose opened 6am, I was 2nd in line. Wosniak autograph my box 16GB white. And had a pic with him. Lined up from 9:30 pm left the store 6:10
 
I went in and pre ordered one from best buy last week. They were very helpful and knowledgeable. They made me buy a 50 dollar gift card and fill out a sheet of paper and told me to pick an appt. time for today. I chose 1:00 p.m. and got a little worried that the incompetence they had shown in the past would prevail and they would screw it up but I was wrong. They were very organized and I was in and out in 20 minutes. I highly recommend trying BB. Plus for 14 dollars a month it is insured for everything but theft. Worth every penny for me and I have to give AT&T credit for letting us upgrade early. I was gonna pay 499 to get it and also it is great to see with 300 songs and 6 full length movies I have 20 gigs available. 32g was the right choice for me.

Exactly. I got to sleep in and my phone arrived at 10:20am, connected to itunes and the phone was ready in 3 minutes, my itunes library synched in 10 minutes. Didn't even get out of my jammies....
 
Great experience at AT&T store

Pre-ordered my iPhone at the local AT&T store on announce day. Arrived at store at 0600 this morning, was first pre-order in line, third in line overall. Was interviewed by 3 different local TV stations, one before I picked up the iPhone and 2 after. At 0700 I was let in the store. Picked up my black 32GB iPhone, moved phone numbers around on my family plan (gave my son my old 3G to replace his 2G) and was out the door activated in about 20 minutes. Painless and a fun time with others there to also pick up thier new iPhones.
 
Preordered one at Best buy
Walked in at 11am walked out at 1122am with 2 activated 32g 3Gs iphones
 
Went to AT&T store where I preordered. Got there about 8 AM and there were five people in the preorder line and about 15 in the first come line. I stood in line for about four minutes.
The Apple store across the street was crazy busy with what seemed to be about 100 people in line.
A buddy of mine with to his local AT&T store and was third in line to get a first come iPhone.
 
Today was cool as a whole. The experience for me was smooth and easy glad I pre-ordered with Apple! The reps at the West 14th Street store was so calm and very excited. Which made my time waiting so much faster! The news came and I was almost on cam but I didn't want to be seen being that I didnt go to work today /:)
 
I had a night and day experience.

I pre-ordered mine from Bestbuy, They called me about 2 hours before I was supposed to have my appointment and let me know they were in early and that I could stop by if I was close to pick it up. Headed down there, everything was already set up, they had the paperwork already filled out with the information I gave them last time, basically just had to pick a number and pay for it. Then I sat around and talked to them for about half an hour as they played around with it a bit.

Then things turned from good to far worse...

I then after tried going to the Apple store to pick up another case for it and a screen protector. Got there and as I tried to walk in the door and guy basically yelled at me and told me not to cut the line. I tried to explain to him I just needed a case and screen protector that I already have the phone. He directed me to a ridiculous long line and said I had to wait to have someone assist me because it was "Launch Day". I tried explaining again what I was wanting to purchase but he wouldn't listen then he also said I needed to pay with a credit or debit card, not cash for any purchases that I made today. Which I can see for the iPhone it self to make things go faster but still, I have purchased many things from the Apple store using cash, including my 24" iMac.

I spoke to the manager there after and explained good customer service and what it means, and how if I was going there to purchase a $2500 laptop I would want some other kind of courtesy instead of being told to wait in a line. She agreed but then just said "Rules are Rules"

I would really shun this Apple store but since its the only one within a reasonable distance I am stuck with shopping with them.
 
Well, on the whole, it was okay, though it started out frustrating. I live between three Apple Stores, so I rolled the dice on where to reserve. I ended up picking wrong. The Manhattan Beach store had a line out the Apple Store, into the mall, and out the door all damn day. Granted, I didn't get there until 5ish, but I had been keeping track. After a wait without moving, I called into the store (which I could not see from my place in line) and asked about their supply of 32GB white. They were close to out, and I was nowhere near the store, so I called the Brea Apple Store, and they still had a lot.

I left Manhattan Beach at 6:30 and drove to Brea. With rush hour traffic, I still made it in an hour, went and stood in a long line, but it was moving quickly. I went from the end of the line to walking out with my shiny new 32GB white iPhone 3G S (activated) in my grubby little hands within forty five minutes. :)

I'm now home, it's restoring from the backup, and I can't wait to play with it!

You wouldn't have happened to go to the Apple store in Columbus, OH, did you? I had the exact same experience there. After a suprisingly excellent experience picking up my iPhone at Best Buy, I went to the Apple store to buy new PowerSupport screen protectors. I was also made to wait in a line for nearly an hour before being allowed into the store, for what turned out to be a 2-minute transaction. Ridiculous.

As far as Best Buy goes, I wasn't expecting much but the experience I had with them was wonderful. I didn't pre-order until June 18, but was only the second person to have done so. I received a call this morning at about 10:40AM that my iPhone was available and I could pick it up anytime before close...the transaction was very smooth, the blue shirts were extremely friendly, and there was absolutely no line; in fact, the CSR told me that aside from the other person who had pre-ordered, no one had been in to buy the new iPhone all day. I'll definitely be visiting Best Buy in the future when I want to get an upgrade.
