I went through Best Buy today and was the best phone buying experience i have ever had..

I got a call around 9:45am MDT saying that the iPhone shipment wasnt going to be in until 11. So i go out have some lunch.. come back at 10:30 and they just got the shipment in. I ask the guy if i could get one and he says he only has 32B black and white... i preordered a 16GB white. My heart, DROPPED when he told me this... I said you just called me and said it would be here at 11. he goes "Ohh you preordered one? Im so sorry, what was the name?" I told him and he pulls out this shiny new shrink wrapped white box with my name on it.

We go on a different computer than the one next to the phones, he asks what the number was i was upgrading, i told him and then about 10 min later, i signed the new 2 year contract, and i was out of there with my brand new 3GS within 30min.

Awesome experience, great job Best Buy!

You wouldn't have happened to go to the Apple store in Columbus, OH, did you?

Nope I got the good ole' New York attitude from the friendly staff of the Smith Haven Mall Apple Store. :p

After that whole deal I realized I picked up a pack of the Power Support shields about 2 weeks ago and had them at home. I actually got one of the people on line to pick me up a case after seeing what happend, which worked out really well cause I knew what I wanted. At least some people are friendly.

I had a great experience. The UPS truck was here at 10:00am.

My UPS guy said, "Hi, Mrs. Mikey--here ya go..."

Connected it to iTunes, and that was it.

Last year, and the year before we waited in line for HOURS. It was fun, but this was the easiest.

I was in Canada until about 4PM, got back in the US and stopped at an AT&T store with no luck. Drove out of Detroit and tried one of the 3 Apple Stores with no luck either. Called the other two and they didn't have any or only had 16's. Finally called the Ann Arbor store and they told me they had 32GB whites, which is what I wanted. I get there, go up to the guy watching the reservation line and he called in back and asked them what they had, he told me they only had 32GB blacks... ok thats fine I'll take one of those. Guy goes in back and says they have none, BUT they do have white. So I got one and that's it.

Oh God. Let me try to not vent too hard, my situation:

I pre-ordered a few days after WWDC09. I bought the 3G back in July, and also ws eligible for the $199/$299. I get to the Apple Store at 7am, finally get in the guy scans the iPhone and says "your account isn't eligible, but you fall in the new upgrade period, blah blah" so they call AT&T to bypass the eligibility, and instead, AT&T activates the phone and now Apple can't sell me the device, and sent me to AT&T store to roll back my account, and they didn't help me there, came back to Apple, they tell me I have to wait 24 - 72 hours to reset my upgrade eligibility so I can purchase the already activated iPhone 3GS that's sitting in the Apple Store. Wasted half a day, accomplished nothing. Woooo.

Some douche last night actually asked us why we pre-ordered a phone instead of going into a store. THIS is why. I knew I was far clear of my upgrade period, but this way I wasted zilch time getting it. Had it been a normal work schedule for me, I would've had it before work.

Sorry that you had problems, but it's just par for the course on all the upgrades you do before 24 months. You're at the mercy of the great Oz until that 24 months comes up.

Much easier than last year. Preordered on Sunday, received it at work today. Went to the AT&T store and took care of all the number swaps. It was a long day, but it was worth it.

My overall experience was great. I got there nice and early and was 3rd in line. All the people in line around me were super cool people, we all had a blast goofin around killin time. Once we got inside the mall by the Apple store the Apple employees were cool also. They were coming in and out of the store talking and goofin off with us as well as feeding us free donuts and drinks. They had the process very well organized and had preorders and normal line standers flying in and outta the store. Everything seemed to go off without a hitch.

My brother and I both pre-ordered iphones at our local ATT store. We went around 1pm today to pick it up. The employee went in the back and came out with only one box which was mine. He couldn't find my brother's and after going to the back again a few more times, he found out that another employee accidentally took my brother's box and took it home.
My brother had pre-ordered the 16gb white iphone and they would've gave him another one but they were out of stock. The guy went back again to talk to somebody and he came out, apologized, and then gave my brother the white 32gb one for the price of the 16gb. Pretty awesome.
