Does anybody know of any discounts or specials sales going on right now for the Nest, Schlage keypad locks, or Simpli Safe security systems? Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales that might still be going on? I tried to order the Nest through Target's website on Cyber Monday for their 15% off sale but couldn't get it to work. :/

We locally have a 100 rebate from the utility company.

We have a nest and really like it. What I don't like is their refusal to add apple watch function to their app. A lot of people like the ecobee. If we didn't already have the nest, I'd buy the ecobee. I like that you can add sensors so it heats/cools based on the room(s) occupied. And they have apple watch support in their own, free app.

I did finally give in and buy a third party app so that I could control the Nest from my watch (and it has geofencing.) I had a knee-jerk reaction to buy an ecobee to "show Nest"... but then my brain kicked in and I realized that the only "showing" I'd be doing was what an idiot I was to spend $300+ to get a new thermostat when a $2.99 app took care of my issues! haha!

once the nest learns your routine (if you have one), it's pretty much hands off... comes on, goes off, goes to away, etc. it's nice to be able to control it pre-cool the house in the summer if it's not a routine function that Nest has learned.

Now when/if the Nest goes bad.... i'll seriously consider ecobee. it doesn't "learn" but you can set up programs.

we don't have a smart lock. we do in and out the garage door... so it's not necessary. I do plan to add the thingy to our garage door so that I can use the app to open/close it and it also monitors if it's open or not!
What third party app are you using for nest on your appple watch? ADT Pulse will be installing a nest in my home on Monday.

I have the nest and I love it. It schedules itself and if I'm going to dinner date with the wife, I can use the app to have it not turn on after I get off work.

I don't have a smart lock but I have smart alarm. I can monitor from an app or browser which door opened and i can disable /enable my alarm.

So I finally got an accepted offer on a house and I will be moving in about a month. I'm already starting to plan some upgrades and personal touches. Two things I am considering - a Nest (or other "smart" thermostat) and some type of "smart lock" for the front door.

Does anyone here have any experiences with either the Nest (or a similar thermostat) or a smart lock (like the Kwikset by Kevo)? Suggestions/recommendations on either type of device?

The house already has a security system in place, but I might be interested in upgrading that as well, so suggestions there would be appreciated as well.
We have had a Nest thermostat for about a year now. We are very happy with it. It learns when you change your thermostat and will learn to do it for you after a few days. You can control your temperature while you are away from home, through your cell phone. We have Apple phones. Each month we get a summary of our energy use. We just got a Nest Protect for fire and carbon monoxide. We don’t have to do anything with it. We are actually on our second Protect. The first one went offline and I couldn’t get it back online even with the help of tech support. I spoke with them on a Friday night and we had a new one that Tuesday.

I don't have a Nest but I like the concept. I had a Bryant furnace and a/c installed last fall. The temps and humidity are all controllable from my iPhone or iPad from anywhere. The system emails me when I need to change filters or schedule maintenance. If something malfunctions it emails both the heating & cooling company and me. Recently during some work a contractor shut down the gas to the house. The furnace detected the problem and I got an email. Within ten minutes I received a phone call from the heating & cooling company saying there was a problem at the house. I couldn't be happier with this.
