Explain the coupons, please

I converted my first over to Apple and OS X: he purchased a 20" iMac over the weekend and loved it so much he ordered a 15" Powerbook last night. Go me! 😀

Anyway, helping my friend through this he asked about the coupons that came with his iMac and what they were for. I had to confess that I have no idea.

Has anyone ever used their coupons? What are they for?
