Export help: FC Express exporting truncated (but massive) files

Final Cut express export to quicktime conversion, keeps resulting in massive files which take a long time to save, and then are either blank or incomplete, truncated versions of the file. It's a 4-minute video, I want to export sufficient quality to post to youtube. What am I doing wrong? I tried rendering all, tried different quality settings....
