Exporting iPhoto to thumb drive question

I want to make a copy of my iPhoto onto a thumb drive. If I use the "export" function, does that just make a copy onto the thumb drive or does it remove them from the laptop and transfer them to the thumb drive? Thanks.

Export will make a copy on the thumb drive and leave the originals in place.
