In March I purchased the new MacBook Air with Touch ID, after today, I noticed 2 cable like materials located in the hinge. Are these display cables? Is there something damaged? They are located where the fan holes are in the back of the computer. One is one the left side the other is on the right side.

They are probably the wifi and camera cables.

Do you have a picture?
Yes, I do. I find it very odd how apple would put these 2 cables in a place where they could easily get broken

That really looks shoddy, I can’t believe a new device could be like that. There is a recognised issue with the 2018 MBP called the “Stage Lighting” effect caused when the cables connecting the lid and body become damaged from repeated opening and closing. Previously they were connected by a ribbon cable but in the latest models it’s two wires. I can’t believe this is Apples solution but who knows? Take it back to Apple and ask. That’s unacceptable.

I agree, it really does baffle me, seeing these ribbon cables exposed like this. I know for a fact these are cables..

take it for a replacement and check the ones in the store as well. My guess is it should not be like that.
and please report back once u have found an answer.

Mine has two sets of ribbon cables either side as you can see here.

You’d be hard pushed to damage them accidentally.
