I have some problems with my iphone 6s+ and called apple; they said they can send me a replacement but i will be charged $29.99 for the service....when did they start charging for this "service"? my phone is obviously still under warranty

that's been the shipping fee for the express replacement option for quite a while

Yes, and it is sometimes waived.

ERS is above standard warranty service. For $29.99 they ship you a new replacement device immediately via overnight service and you have 10 days to return your device. There are other free options but this one sends you.

I have found that the fee is most frequently waived when I have AppleCare on the device.

Hey just remember they also place a hold on your credit card for the "replacement value" of the device. In your case it will be $749, $849, or $949 depending on the storage configuration.

this is the first time they asked me to pay, and i haven ever had apple care. i got Express replacements several times for previous iphoens and watches etc.

maybe i'll call back so i dont have to waste time at the store

This fee is always automatically waived with AppleCare+ which is one of the reasons I get the extended warranty. It's very convenient to have them simply ship you a new phone so you don't have to worry about going to the Genius Bar or being without a phone.

Last I checked you wouldn't get charged if you had AC+.

Either way, worth it simply for the convenience.
