Hi everyone! I'm posting here and not in the MacBook Pro section because I'll probably get more helpful answers here, rather than the usual "upgrade your Mac".
Do you know of any USB 3.0 ExpressCard expansion card that is compatible with a MacBook Pro 3.1 running El Capitan?
I don't want to spend a fortune on this card, I'd say 30€ max.
Thank you!

anything with a FL1100 USB 3 chipset should work :)

for example https://www.ebay.com/itm/262393441049

I'm also using that Express-Card from the very same seller and it does work fine out of the box.
They do offer two different models - the cheaper one is for the early OSX-versions (SL to Mojave), the other for the later OSX (Lion to Mojave). Got mine even working with Catalina-Patch on the early-2008 MBP4,1 A1260 too.
Look at their ebay-shop site and start from different locations (US, UK, AUS etc) 'cause they may have different price-tags.
The USB-connectors are not that kind of tight fitting and sometimes I'm afraid, the USB-cable might be unintentionally plugged somehow, but this didn't ever happen yet. Maybe not a bug but a feature, because you won't unplug the whole card while pulling the USB-cable.
For longer tasks you should definitely "have a cup of coffee", I mean run "Caffeine", since the ExpressCard-connection is forced to shut down/disconnect as soon as the Mac enters hibernation-mode.
