Ext HDD device doesnt show on Itunes

How do i get my external HDD appearing in my itunes app so that i can access all my music albums that i have on the ext HDD ? It shows on my Finder.

I dont really want to format my HDD again as i have about 400GB of stuff on it and also use it on my Windows laptop.

I can get my USB stick to appear as a device but not HDD.

Any advice ?

If it appears in your finder then hold the option key as you open iTunes and you'll be able to select the library on the HDD.

I tried that but that just creates a separate library folder and copies all the 300gb music onto my internal HDD. I just want it to appear as a removal drive.
