Hi!

I have some questions concernig a software JBOD with Mac OS 10.5.x.
Is it possible to...

(1) add disks later to the array without loosing data on the existing disks?
(2) add harddisks with different types und sizes?
(3) access the "non overlapping" data when using one JBOD disk separately?
(4) replace the smallest disk in the array with a bigger one and migrate my data?

IMO, adding different sized disks to an JBOD at any time could be _the_ advantage compared to a RAID 0.

BTW: I know, hardware RAID 5 would be perfect. But I learned here recently, that sleep mode is not possible with the RAID card built in :(

Any ideas?
Thanks!

The term JBOD (just a bunch of disks) is intended to sound sort of snotty for a reason! It isn't even RAID 0 which itself isn't considered to be a legitimate RAID. Yes you can use different sized disks, but every time you add, change or remove a drive you have to erase and reformat, losing everything.
