I have an iPad Pro 11" 4th Gen iPAD OS version 26.2.1) and I'm trying to use it with an external monitor in extended mode. I've tried searching these forums and googling the issue, but I'm not seeing my exact issue. I can connect just fine & I can select Stage Manager in settings.

In Display & Brightness, I see my Built In Retina display & the external Monitor a Viewsonic 15" Portable display (with a USB-C interface). When I click on the arrangement tab, I can move my iPad around the Viewsonic just find, but whenever I de-select Mirror Display & then hit the Set button, it appears to do what I want, but then that box closes out & the monitors are still in mirroring mode. If I go back into Arrangement, Mirror is re-selected.

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, or if maybe I misunderstand the entire process.

Thanks in advance for any advice you. an provide.

Only iPPs with M-processor allow for extended, not-mirroring, display. Your iPP has a A12z processor.

I apologise, misread the model of OP‘s iPP.

  • connect a mouse and/keyboard to the iPP (bluetooth/usb) and try setting the extended mode.
  • There are older reports that some monitors require to unplug usb-c cable from monitor and unplug power cable from monitor as well, and them reconnecting the power cable while the iPP is already usb-c connected to the monitor to get extended display working - but that is some what LG models specific I thought.

Thanks. I've done the first bullet point. The second one is (possibly) my issue. There is no power cord for the monitor. I was just using the USB-C cable for both power & video. I tried plugging & unplugging the USB-C.

Every time I’ve had that issue, it was the cable. I think some cables only provide power but not Dara? At least that’s what I’ve been told. I’ve duplicated the issue and have now sorted and separated the cables on hand. I did have a couple that would work and then and vice versa, not, so those went in the “does not work” pile.

Thanks, I used the same cable both days, but it could be wonky. I'll try a different cable & see if the issue stays away. appreciate the help.

Sounds like another bug with iPadOS 26. Since it works fine in mirror mode I don’t think there’s any issue with the monitor or cable. I use a usb c only portable display as well and it works as expected out of the box but I don’t use version 26 precisely to avoid bugs.

I've hesitated on upgrading to 26 on all of my devices, but figured that I'm going to need to get used to it at some point. The iPad is the only device that Ive upgraded so far. I'll probably hold off on any others for a while.

@Slartibart and I sent good thoughts, but there's no need to thank us. 😌
I'm sure that post was made in jest. But I do appreciate your thoughts & ideas. I try to reply to them all but missed those. Thank you both for the help.

I like Apple as everything just normally works. When it doesn't, I quickly become out of my depth and truly appreciate the ideas everyone shares.
