Some users say that while there USB-C hub is detected and most ports work as intended, USB 3.0 ports supposedly aren’t seen by macOS.
macOS Monterey won’t play nicely with USB-C peripherals
“My USB-C hub has issues with this update,” wrote
Flyersny81 on Reddit. “The HDMI port connected to my second screen is working on the hub but none of the USB3 ports are working at all.
“Had a call with Apple support and they said to try an Apple certified hub. I used this one I had floating around in my bag and both the HDMI and USB3 ports worked on it. I tried to daisy chain the Amazon hub to the Apple hub but that didn’t work either.”
Others are seeing weirder glitches, with many saying that their power delivery ports no longer work properly, and others reported issues with external USB-C monitors that include additional connectivity options.
“Same problem as everyone, bought 34″ Philips 346P1CRH/00 and everything worked fine on BigSur,” wrote
lenskdav. “After updating to Monterey, the video and ethernet works, but power supply is cut off. I’m on an M1 Macbook Air.”
The issues have been documented on
Reddit, on
Apple’s Support Communities forum, and on
Apple’s Developer Forums, according to
MacRumors.
No fix for now
Although many of the users affected appear to be using Apple M1 machines, others are reporting similar problems on Intel devices. Some say they experienced the glitches during the macOS Monterey beta — and reported them to Apple — but they don’t appear to have been properly addressed before the
public release.
With no fix just yet, the problem is present in all versions of macOS Monterey, including the latest 12.0.1 release. Here’s to hoping it is finally eliminated in a future software update.
In the meantime, if you rely on USB peripherals and you haven’t already updated to macOS Monterey, it may be a good idea to wait until the bugs are ironed out.
