External display as main?

Is it possible to make an external display the main display with the dock on it and still use the one on my MBP as a external?

Yes. To make your external the display that has your dock and menu bar, go to System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement. Inside the little representations of your screen, drag the little white menu bar inside one of the displays to the other one.
