OK, didn't get much response on my last post, so Ill post again. I am completely stumped as to why I connect my 15" MBP up to my 19" Proview widescreen LCD, select 1440 x 900 and then looking at the physical display it says 1152 x 864...

If anyone has had a similar issue with an external display or knows what the solution could be...please let me know!!!

    clamshell? mirrored? extended display?
what is the native resolution of the external display? does it support 1440 x 900?
is the display "crisp" (indicating perhaps that it is at its native resolution) or somewhat blurred?
and where it is the physical display showing 1152 x 864?

1440 x 900 is the native resolution, worked PERFECTLY on my 13" MacBook. This issue occurs in clamshell and extended modes, and as mentioned in another post I don't think it is even a supported res in Vista for external displays or something...just tryin to fix it in Mac OS right now. The writing is blurry, but very slightly, which is why I didn't notice at first. When I hit the "menu" button on the display is shows what resolution it is currently displaying...

any advice at all is welcome I feel that Ive tried everything...

does it occur using the extended desktop?

by menu, do you mean the drop down menu from the "displays" icon in the menubar?

is the correct resolution listed in the displays setting in system prefs?
    have you tried "detect displays"?
have you tried re-booting with the display connected (I have had a few problems with hot-swapping on my MBP, although never resolution problems)?
    have you tried other displays?

don't know what else to suggest. I use a MBP on a 23 and 30 ACD, with zero problems with respect to obtaining the correct resolution.

Yep, same re problem if I used extended desktop, tried restarting just now, didn't work, tried detecting displays. I would try another display if I had one but I don't. Also, 1440 x 900 is the only resolution that messes up, any of the others will display correctly. The menu I am talking about it the physical button on the display. While 1440 x 900 is selected in system prefs, the display still says "1152 x 864" - pretty mad right now dammit Nvidia...but I love it so much at the same time

OK so get this, just had a thought that I can't select 1440 x 900 in games in windows, so in Mac OS just now I loaded WarCraft III, and sure enough it loads right up into 1440 x 900 on my external display flawlessly...probably gonna call apple about this one lol
