External drive not showing up when attached

Wondering if this is correct thread to post this qn but nonetheless posting it -

I have a 120 GB WD passport. till yday i was able to see it in the finder(under devices) when I plugged it in... but strangely today when I plugged it in.. i cant locate it in the sidebar of the finder(under devices). Though i can see the External drive's icon in the desktop and also able to access it from there...

Can anyone please tell me.. what's wrong?
