I have a 2.4 Santa Rosa macbook pro and I took a Pioneer 110 out of my old mac G4 tower. I put it in an external enclosure that is both usb 2.0 and firewire 400. I hooked the drive up today using both firewire and usb 2.0 and got the same weird results. If I insert a cd the cd shows up on the desktop. But, when I go to play them iTunes just freezes.

I tried using the install disk that came with the enclosure but I get a message that says the disk isn't readable by this machine.

Any ideas?

I should have made it clearer. I am not plugging both USB and Firewire at the same time. I tried both and neither is working.

that's ok - try just the firewire connection - then go into about my mac > more info > firewire and see whether the dvd burner is there and whether it is supported or not.
