    I recently purchased a secondhand G4 iMac 800Mhz running 10.2
Unfortunately the CD/DVD Draw is busted and won't open and i'm thinking the easiest option is to get an external drive.

    I found this:

I live in Ireland so it looks to be a good deal except that:
    (a) Macs are not mentioned in the compatibility section (they never are anyway) - but will it be compatible?
    (b) It appears to be USB 2.0 only is this an issue?

I used 2 LaCie external drives and had no problems what so ever. I would recommend you email the company or check online for more info before buying but i am 90% sure you wont have a problem.

Don't go USB 2.0 only. Firewire is much better for external burners and hard disks on Macs. It might be rated slower than USB 2.0, but in real life it performs a lot better.

Either look at an all-in-one external DVD-RW as you have done, or get a 5.25" firewire case and an internal DVD burner (Pioneer are good, plus they are supported on Macs more than other brands are).

All you do is slot the drive in the case and you're done. It works fine, plus you're free to switch drive out easily. Probably will work out cheaper too.
