Hi,

I am interested in adding an external GPU for either my Macbook Pro 13" early 2011 or Macbook early 2015.
I saw the AKiTiO Thunder2 PCIe Box and have seen some youtube videos showing it doesn't work on newer 2015 macbook pro retina models. I would like to add a GeForce GTX 970 or higher GPU to this device.

Have you got this to work on older or newer laptop and is it reliable? I would like to use it for rendering in Final Cut Pro X as well as maybe using it for 4k monitor. The Macbook 2015 does do 4k but only 30fps.

Will USB - C work with the Akitio with a USBC to thunderbolt 2 adapter?

Will thunderbolt 1 on macbook 2011 be too slow for the Akitio?

Thanks.

That definitely isn't going to work with the rMB as it doesn't even have Thunderbolt. Not sure about the 2011 MBP.
