Hi everyone,

can someone please help me out? Until yesterday my external HD was working ok, when i turned the external HD on today the icon didn't show up on my desktop.

However the light on the external drive is blinking and the sound that it makes when booting up doesn't sound different than other times...when i go into "disk utility's" the external hd is showing (it's a Lacie 1.5TB)

When i click verify disk i get a message saying "Error this disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk." when i click repair disk absolutely nothing happens ...its running for over an hour now but i don't even know if something is actually being repaired or not.

Does anyone know if my external drive is dead or is there a chance i'll still be able to get to my files and how? :(

Check the data cable, and the power connection cable/adapter.
Not to discourage you, but I am not very fond of the LaCie HDD. My father and brother had terrible experiences with them, so they are banned in our family!
Do you have a backup?

One of their disks had a bad power adapter and after replacing it it worked OK, anyways check yours.

If it is the power supply then your data should be fine. Worst case scenario open your HDD and put it inside another enclosure to recover the data.

There are several brands, and in no particular preference:
Western Digital
Seagate
Samsung
Toshiba
Newertech

I had always been buying from here: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/
I do like the MiniStack MAX, as I needed an external BluRay drive.
You can buy enclosures there and then the HDD of your preference.

Others buy in the forum buy from:
http://www.newegg.com

Recently I bought at BestBuy this for a personal Cloud:

I just installed it and doing the first TimeMachine backup, it will take me some time…
I do like that I can upload and access it from almost any device I have.
