External Hard Drive Issue

Hi everyone,

This is my first post so I'm sorry if it's in the wrong place.
I have recently bought a MacBook 12" & am trying to access some files from my external HD on my laptop via the USB-C to USB cable.

The drive is not showing up on my desktop/finder however it is being picked up and read by Disk Utility. The drive works fine on my iMac & old MacBook Pro (2009).

I have attached an image in case it is of any use. Any help would be much appreciated!

Check Finder>Preferences...>General that Hard disks is checked under "Show these items on the desktop:"
