External hard drive problems

I have a Seagate GoFlex External Hard Drive 500gb, and it just stopped mounting. Disc Utility has stopped working, and just gives me errors when I try to do anything with it.
Any ideas or solutions?

I would like to know what is wrong before I waste my money on GoFlex next week.

Are you using Firewire or USB to your MacBook? I am curious.

Platter based hard drives are all the same - they eventually die. The only thing you can do is buy a drive with a decent warranty so you get a free replacement if it does.

Yeah, I think I am going to just get an actual dependable hard drive with a dedicated power source.
I wouldn't recommend this at all, it's been nothing but problems.

This is using USB, not firewire.
