Lacie is not a hard drive manufacturer,

I wanted to buy a LaCie p3 250 GB F.A. Porsche FireWire Drive, but I put it back on the shelf when I looked at the box and saw that it was Made in China. I assumed that since other LaCie products were at least assembled in America, and this product was supposedly made by Porsche Design Agency GmbH, I was expecting it to have been made somewhere in the EU. :(

It's the same thing as "Designed in California" on all Apple products (most of which are made in China and Taiwan.)

i got my eye on the lacie triple interface 250 gig one before school starts again at the end of auguest.

I've got one. I love it. When you turn your computer on (assuming the drive is attached), it turns on. When you turn your computer off, it turns off. No fans, very quiet and good looking to boot. Highly recommended. (BONUS: looks like HAL 9000's little brother.)

It's rare to see anything not made in China nowadays. At least Apple still builds the PowerMac in America, but most of the hardware devices come from China. I've replaced so many bad parts from China that Apple has lost money on my AppleCare purchase. I've had a graphics chip, two DVD drives, and two power supplies replaced. These hardware failures cost me money in downtime. I have wondered why thinking different doesn't include sending all manufacturing to China. I would at least like to know where each Apple product is being made. Does Apple identify these facilities?
