I recently bought an external USB 2.0 2.5" SATA enclosure for a 80GB hard drive I removed from my MBP when I installed a newer, larger hard drive. The enclosure works great, but I have one major problem with it- when I put my MBP to sleep, the external enclosure stays on, LED lit, and hard drive spinning inside of it. I had a different thread on this earlier that has run into a dead end. I learned from that that some external enclosures only sleep if they have some sort of hardware that allows them to. What is this piece of hardware called, so I know what to look for in an enclosure? Does anyone know how to make the enclosure and hard drive power down when the MBP goes to sleep?
Sigh, does no one know anything? How about a recommendation for a different enclosure that has the sleep function built in?
I think it may be because it is a sata enclosure. The usb/firewire ones I've had worked fine, but I never used eSata before.
I have mine hooked up via USB 2.0, so I haven't tried eSATA yet, as I don't have an eSATA adapter for my MacBook Pro. Hmm
