External hard drive

    Yup, will work fine. You'd be better off with a firewire 800 drive tho.

    I'm not concerned with speed right now. I had a white macbook that the hard drive failed on, I replaced it with this macbook pro and wanted to make sure I have an external harddrive to backup my files to. I'm a college student and this is about as much as I am willing to spend on one right now.

    Go for the USB2.0 then, but a firewire 800 drive won't really run you much more $$ if any at all.

    I can't drop $140 at this time. Wish I could. I'm taking summer classes so I'm only working part time. That does not translate into a lot of money. Besides I'm only using about 40-50gb of my stock 250gb hard drive.
