External Hardrive question?

Is it possible for me to run a program like Photoshop on my external hardrive. I would like to transfer the program over to my new MBP, but I'm having trouble doing that. Is it possible for me to just run it on the External HD?

Yup. But the data transfer rate of USB might not be very fast so it may lag and get hung up sometimes.

When i try and open it it says I can't because it's in a time machine backup.
