I've recently purchased a SATA 1TB Seagate drive and I'm looking for an external enclosure to put this beast in.

Requirements are simply firewire and good looks!

I've searched high and low and the only enclosures I can find are ugly as sin!!

I own four LaCie drives and I'd prefer my desk to keep its reasonable looks.

    Anybody got any suggestions?

[Doh! I now see you're on the other side of the pond.]

How about OWC's Mercury Elite-AL Pro Quad? I have a Rosewill quad and it's nice and quiet, but not as pretty.

I am a big fan of OWC, they have good service and support, I would go with them, and their cases look pretty good next to LaCie stuff(I own both an OWC and LaCie drive)

    Two things:

Are they available as just enclosures?

Reckon I could get one shipped to the UK?

Yes, if you got all the way down to the bottom of the Mercury page where it says "New", that's the enclosure sans drive.

Can anyone recommend a nice looking 2.5 enclosure with FW800 + USB 2.0? Wanting to use it with the 320 Scorpio WD HD.

    thanks - MD

I'm confused -- Macally has these 2.5 enclosures, one says it's USB 2 and 1394 and one says it's Usb 2 and Super Firewire 1394 A. I figured 'Super' would mean FW 800 -- but when I looked up 1394 A, it says the x-fer speed is 400MBPS?

Can someone clarify this? Here is the enclosure I'm talking about:

    Thanks!

The S version takes a SATA drive, the non-S version takes a PATA drive. Otherwise, it looks like they're the same.

Thanks for clearing that up CaveMan. It's strange -- I can't find any enclosure/portable HDD that is at least 320gb w/ fw800 and usb 2.0 -- if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it!

    thanks - MD
