I bought a usb 2.0 enclosure and put an old 80 gig hdd i had around. The disk use to have winxp on it and that became corrupted and wouldnt boot. My pb would not see the drive when I put it in the enclosure so i reformatted it to fat32. After reformatting my pb still will not mount it. The drive does not apprear in disk utilitly but does show up in the system profile. Anyone know how to make the drive mount or what is causeing it not to?

don't format it into fat or fat32. format it to HFS or HFS +. Does it show up in disc utility when you boot of a Mac OS X disc? My iMac has issues with fat and fat32 formated drives too.

I formatted it with a win98 disk which is currently on the hdd. Disk Utility does not see the drive at all but in the system profiler it shows as a USB2.0 Storage Device. I'm not sure how to formatt it HFS or HFS+. The drive also does not work when its plugged into a xp pc. It just says there was an error when installing drive and it may not work correctly. I'm thinkng that my enclosure may just be a bad one?

format it from Disk Utility. if you need to use it between PC and Mac, create a new partition structure, and make sure that the file system is PC friendly (ie. fat32). if you don't need to use with a PC, you can change to a Mac file system (ie. HFS) and format it that way. if formatting it HFS from disk utility doesnt work, it might be a dodgy enclosure. have you got another you can try?
