Hi Guys,

Just ordered a 13" rMBP, need to get data off my PC.

What's the best place to pick up nice slim Ext HDD, looking for 500gb or 1tb.

Or can somebody suggest one that they have purchased?

The WD My Passport is pretty popular and you can find them on Amazon or about any electronics store.

Just erase it when you get it to get rid of any aftermarket software that is on the drive since you don't need it on your Mac.

Yep, definitely Western Digital, specifically the My Passport. Don't bother with the "for Mac". It's completely unnecessary. You will need to make sure it's formatted so that both your PC and Mac can read it.

Count me as another vote for Western Digital. I exclusively buy WD drives, both internal and external, and have for over ten years. The very oldest one (purchased in Fall of 2002) only just recently showed signs of impending failure. They are very reliable.

I have two 1 TB WD My Passport drives--like them a lot--will probably stick with them in the future as well. (same model as Weaselboy)

Can these be shared between both macs and pc's for backing up multiple systems? Or does it need to be partitioned for each?

It would need to have a partition for each in each system's native format.
