I use my iPhone to record promotional videos at my work as the 12 Pro does a great job of that, but the only struggle I have is to get really clean sounding audio. I'm wondering what folks would recommend for equipment to record better audio straight to my phone.

I purchased an external lav mic, by PowerDeWise on Amazon, and while it helps, I still hear the 'air' as I describe it when I make a video. I'd rather not have to record the audio on a separate device and try to sync it up. I am doing fairly basic work in iMovie.

I sometimes play with the noise reduction feature in iMovie, but it can make things sound unnatural.

Hey Chad. I'm an audio professional, glad to help a little if I can. Sure, there are a bunch of them. The lavalier mic you purchased was a good buy, but cheap. The sound quality will be a bit tinny. By "air" you mean high end noise? You can attenuate that with EQ. The only problem is, you might lose some of the sibilance and high end in your audio / interviews.

One option is the Shure MV88. It has a really good mount that clamps right on your phone. You have such a beautiful phone though, that takes such pro videos. Another you might consider is the Lewitt DGT 650. I plan to buy one soon. It gets the best reviews. Expensive, but reputedly very good quality audio. If you just need a lav mic for interviews, you could look around for another one of those, maybe the Shure MVL. I hope that helps my friend.

Hey Chad. Out of curiosity is there a reason you’re opposed to recording the audio on a separate microphone in addition to recording audio and video on your phone? It’s super easy to sync up so long as you record audio on both devices.
