Did a search for this on this site, without a clear answer.

I want to buy an external display for my MPB but I was wondering what is the max resolution it can support. I checked the specs on the site and it says up to 2560 x 1600. Is that for all the models? or is that just for the 17" model?

    I just don't want to buy a large display(like the 30") and then find out that my 15" MBP can't support it's 2560 x 1600 native resolution.

The MBP should be just fine with the 30" native resolution

All current MacBook Pro support the ACD 30" screen resolution.

Can anyone comment on the 15.4" 2.2GHz model performance ?

IN terms of what exactly? My MacBook can drive a 1920*1200 resolution display, and although it can't really drive video on it, if I am just using it for coding or documents, mostly static stuff you know?

If you are doing stuff like that then the 2.2GHz MBP would be able to handle it just fine. Heck the early 1.83GHz MBPs with the X1600s probably handled it just fine, but I would reckon that the new ones could even handle full screen video pretty well although maybe not 1080P.

These are all educated guesses mind you, so you may want to wait for someone that actually does have a 30" display hooked up to their MBP.
