Hm.
So I guess I'll hold out on buying that external monitor, eh?
Ha.

I haven't even recieved my computer in the mail and I'm already facing problems. :rolleyes:

Ah well. Apple will fix it.

and eight months later... this still is a problem on my brand new Macbook Pro.

intermittent static when awakening from sleep

Happens to me too!

I am running a MacBookPro5,3 on Mac OS X 10.6.1 (10B504). My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 2220WM.

The static on monitor wake issue has happened since the day I got the MBP.

Have you guys done a PRAM/SMC reset. Maybe its just a driver issue of the 9400m do MBP 15/17: users have this problem

I have this exact same setup

I kinda had the same issue under Leopard with my MacBook and a VGA/TV setup with our LCD TV. Sometimes upon wake the MacBook wouldn't read the monitor was there, and a quick replug would result in both the MacBook and TV reverting to 800x600.

This problem is gone with Snow Leopard, the computer always remembering to keep the MacBook at 1280x800 and the TV at 1280x768.

Digging up an old post here but I have the static issue using a mac mini late 2009 running sl. In my case the monitor goes to static when waking up. So far, I have changed the settings for sleep to about 5 mins longer and it seemed to fix it but the problem came back after a few days. When it happens, I just urn off the monitor for a few seconds and back on ... this has worked so far.

Also having problems with my Mac Mini (purchased Dec 09) and intermittent static when computer goes to sleep. Had to unplug and plug back in the mini-display port connected to my 24" Samsung LCD to get my display back.

I have completely turned off the power savings for both the computer and monitor. I will manually turn off my display and see what happens from here.

static after sleep

I get the same static after sleep problem on my Mac Mini (late 2009) that I bought six weeks ago. It's not the monitor because I've used it on two different PCs and that never happened after the PCs being woken up after sleep. After the static appears I have to turn off the monitor and turn it back on. It only happens sometimes. I also noticed that if you let it go back to sleep and wake it back up sometimes the static is gone. Considering that I moved from PC to Mac because I was tired of problems, this is pretty frustrating. It happens about 1 out of 5 times waking up from sleep.

static after sleep

To augment my post, I'd like to mention that an error shows up in the logs.

4/20/10 9:28:41 AM System Preferences[11048] *** AGCAttach() failed

Same same

yep same issue here.
I got a MacBook Pro 2.53GHZ INterl Core 2 Duo with a DELL monitor connected to it via DVI to DVI to Mini Display port.

Where and what do we do now to fix it?

I swapped my monitor with Dell and it still does same static. So I know it's not the monitor or the DVI cable.

It's either the MACBOOK or the Adapter!

Same problem here with Imac 27"

I got the same problem with my Imac 27" Quadcore. It did the same with my old external monitor too, so I know it is not the monitor. The workaround I use is, that fortunately I have double screen settings for the second monitor (don't know why, se picture), and if I choose the same resolution I already got (but just the one without the 'V'), the second monitor it wakes up. It is though a bit annoying as I have to do it every time the issue occurs!

It's been happening for me two for a few years now, as I recall. I didn't bother googling for it - until now.

My solution is usually just to either wait, sometimes it takes just a few seconds but other times it seems to never "come back" and displays only static - but what always seems to work is simply to turn off the monitor on the button (on front of the monitor) and turn it back on.

I've had this occur on two or three different MacBook Pro's with different monitors. I guess it could be software related as I have been transferring my Mac home folder content between the MacBook Pro's.

Your problem might have something to do with you not being on the latest firmware on your MacBook Pro... Try an update first. Hope this helps :)

That's weird, I'm not having that problem with my external monitor. I have a 2010 unibody MacBook on Lion that I hook up to a Samsung Monitor sometimes.. Have you guys tried updating your systems?
