it would be awesome that on 10.9, we control weather if integrated or dedicated graphics can be used while using an external monitor.
 
I fear that dGPU's will soon be a thing of the past with everything except the MacBucket Pro. :(
 
You can do that already. There is an app called GFX status. (Or the likes) Let's you control which GPU is active.

yes thats if you're not using an external monitor.

lets say you have the integrated selected via those apps. and you plug in an external monitor in, it will not work.

try it and see.

even if thats the case, it will not solve the problem for those that have already bought MBP's. i don't wanna buy a new one just to solve this problem.
 
I read before that the DisplayPort/Thunderbolt ports are connected to the discrete GPU and not the integrated. A software update won't be able to change that.
