Hi,

I want to connect a usb c hub on my macbook pro and connect my external monitor (HDMI) to the hub. The problem is that my macbook doesn't have a usb C port (model 2013).
So I though about getting a usb 3 to usb c adapter and connect the hub there, but my monitor is not detected from the laptop..
Any ideas what might be the problem?

Thank you

That isn’t going to work at all - the USB3 port on your Mac doesn’t support “USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode” which is needed for a USB-C to HDMI adapter.

There are USB 3 video adapters using a technology called Displaylink that act that way, but it’s a compressed streaming technology, with all sorts of caveats.

Also, a Thunderbolt 1 or 2 hub should do what you want, but they’re more expensive.
