I have a 2016 MacBook. I've tried two different USB-C to HDMI adapters, and both have done the same thing. One was a cheap Chinese adapter off Amazon, the other is a Monoprice adapter. Every so often, the external monitor will "twitch". Maybe twitch isn't the right word. It looks like the external monitor is swiping to a new space (completely un-prompted), and then stop in the middle of the animation and return to what was being displayed. It happens in a fraction of a second.

The first adapter did it quite frequently (every minute or two). The new Monoprice adapter will do it once every 30 minutes or so. Is this an adapter issue? A computer issue? A software glitch? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it any further.

I'm betting on an adaptor issue since you saw an improvement when switching them out. Try with the Apple HDMI adaptor.

I've seen this on one of my old 1200p monitor using the Apple HDMI/USB-C adapter.
