I’m using a iPad Pro 12.9”, 6th Gen, iOS26. I’m retired and getting back to photography with iPhone 15 Pro Max. I am looking for the largest capacity External SSD drive that iPad will power. I will be transferring photos/videos from my phone to iPad for any editing then want to store on an SSD. I would prefer one that does not need external power but would consider one if the right price.

iPad pro can power any SSD, it can power external HHDs too, which require more power. The largest you can find are 8TB SSDs as far as I know. If you want maximum speed get a Thunderbolt SSD or a Thurderbolt enclosure with an 8TB SSD (generally cheaper)

Size isn't an issue, how you plan to use it is. If you might want to shoot 4K/60 in ProRes one day, just because a faster SSD will be needed. Also Do you want one that's able to be used in the field or will never leave your desk? This is a YouTube video that covers basics on SSD and iPad Pro.
If you haven't check out the Photo of the day threads here on MacRumors and share some photos.
