So I got a new MacBook 12-inch a few days ago. First I set it up as a new MacBook and then I restored my Time Machine backup from my old MacBook Pro (which I am still using).

The problem is that instead of two Macbooks showing in my iCloud, there are three. When I setup SMS forwarding on my iPhone, it shows 3 devices. When I check for iCloud tabs in Safari, it shows three devices. These three are:
  • Ammar's MacBook Pro (my old and currently in use MacBook)
  • Ammar's MacBook (my new MacBook, setup as new. however this device isn't active anymore and is replaced by the one below. but for some reason this is still showing up in my iCloud)
  • MacBook (my new MacBook, which is currently in use and restored via Time Machine)
I need to remove the 2nd device in the list since it's essentially an inactive duplicate of the third device.

On icloud.com just click on one of them in the settings section and you get a list with all devices and there should be an X to remove the selected one.
In the "find my iPhone" section there is also a list with all device that has "find my iPhone" and "find my Mac" enabled and you can delete it there.

In SMS forwarding on the iPhone you can't remove any device. I have several Macs I don't own anymore listed there also duplicates of Macs if I changed their name. I read the only solution to get rid of all devices, is deactivating iMessage on the phone, change your password for iMessage and reactivate iMessage.
