sorry for the jumbled title but i was wondering if anyone could explain what the extra copies of my files are when i take them from a mac and look at the folder on a pc

example:

IMG000643.jpg
.IMG000643.jpg

the extra "copies" are almost nothing in file size and are grayed out

what is the deal with these things?

thanks

They store metadata relevant to OS X that cannot be placed in the file itself because of limitations of the filesystem you used...

If the files are not going back to a Mac, you can delete them and/or set up a macro or script to get rid of all of them. If they are going back to a Mac, you can also delete them but you will lose the associated metadata.
