Hi all,

I have a 2021 24" imac & am looking to get a 2nd monitor, i've googled it & can't seem to see anything

Has anyone else managed to add another monitor to their mac? if so can you post a link

Ta

Phil

Not sure if you are asking if it can be paired with a second monitor (it can) or if you are asking for monitor recommendations. If the latter, just about any monitor can be used. There are so many possibilities that if you want recommendations, you need to add some details in what you want. Bigger? Smaller? Wider? Could an iPad suffice as an extension monitor? If you only need temporary uses, could perhaps linking to a TV cover the need?

Note too that this is a biased crowd, so you are going to get a bunch of recommendations for the ASD because that's the only consumer monitor Apple makes. So if you end up with 80% push for ASD, understand that you asked Apple people for a monitor recommendation. If you asked Dell people for a monitor recommendation, the percentages would likely be as dramatic (yet very different).

Share detail on WHY you want a second monitor. And bigger or just a little more screen? And if you are trying to get something that visually "matches" or you don't care about that. Etc.

Sorry, yes I wanted one (hopefully either side of my mac, that I can extend mine too.

With my poor old eyes I tend to be working off 2 documents & want to put one onto another screen so I can see both! I shall google screens if any will do!

Thanks @HobeSoundDarryl

At a minimum I would recommend a 4K monitor. In other words…don't get a 1080p monitor.

Also, you'll be connecting via one of your USB-C ports so get a monitor that has a DisplayPort connection. Your cable will have USB-C on one end and the proper DisplayPort on the other. If the monitor doesn't come with one you'll have to buy it separately.

If anyone has better information or a correction please chime in!

Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest. Anything with a USB-C input on the monitor will work and there are plenty of excellent options from Dell.

Probably hard to find a matching screen as good as the 24" iMac though which is a shame. If you're looking for something a similar size then Dell do a nice line of 25" monitors but 27" are more common. The Asus ProArt line sound like reasonable ones to look at too

May as well jump in with the fanboy suggestion but… Apple Studio Display has a lot going for it. 5k resolution, simple to control from macOS. You’d be hard-pressed to find a display of this size & resolution & quality elsewhere at ANY price.

There are other options of course… and I echo the previous suggestion from @BrianBaughn about resolution. 4k at 22” is good (similar PPI to your built-in 4.5k display, or to the 27” Studio at 5k).
