Long story short i use a NAS to backup my mac using time machine, i done a clean install of Lion and then lost the backup functionality, i managed to pull everything by mounting the backup file except my photos out of iPhoto.

Is there anyway i can extract them exactly as they are? i've tried browsing the package contents but it messes them up they are all organised as date rather than albums or folders.

I have thousands and would never be able to organise them again manually.

Would i be able to just replace my iphoto folder with the backup version?

Try entering Time Machine, browse to iPhoto Library in the Pictures Folder, select it, and then click on TM's Restore button.
