Extreme heat/temp. Issues

I woke up this morning and took my phone off the charger (it's a 4s). It was extremely hot (way more than a hand-warmer), and was displaying that the temp. was too hot to use. I've had my phone display this before from being outside, however I've never had it get there on its own. I'm kinda scared to keep using iOS 7. Has this happened to anyone else?

I noticed heat issues at first, but not once since I switched to a static wallpaper and turned off parallax.

I noticed heat issues at first, but not once since I switched to a static wallpaper and turned off parallax.

Both are off for me too, as well as background app refresh. I'm wondering what could have caused it.

go to settings>General>reset> and Reset all Settings. Has worked for myself and a few other people as well.
