Hey guys, new here, just needed a place to vent...

So I placed my original order from a lovely net store on July 12th, as that is then earliest they were supposed to get the model I am looking for, the IPP 12.9'' (2nd Gen) 256MB WiFi Space Grey.

I pay up (in advance, might I say), and wait patiently to see my order be sent, only to realize the date immediately changes to the 20th on the expected delivery as they don't actually have them in store yet.

I wait until the 20th reading these forums and building up my anticipation, only to see it the date changed to the 30th as soon as the 20th hits... frustration starting to seriously build up.

On the 30th the date again changes to the 6th of August, and I finally cancel my order, and place it with a new net store here in Norway, which is supposed to get their shipment from Apple on the 3rd.... Lo and behold, today (the 2nd), their date changes to September 9th for the Space Grey, and I am just about to kick a kitten.... aghh..

So I went ahead and cancelled that, and ended up ordering on the official Apple site. They are expecting delivery dates of between the 21st and the 28th of August... have I ordered directly from Apple, I would have had it in my hands by the 8th... bah.

Guess what I am trying to say is, the darn Space Grey modell (at least in 256GB) is rarer than toothfairies and leprechauns combined here in Norway, and no stores in the entire country have them.

When in doubt, go directly to Apple.

Oh, and I haven't owned an Ipad since the original in 2010, so I am really looking forward to getting this beast, one lovely day... god knows this is really a bad omen when thinking about the ordering chaos of the iPhone Edition in a month or two...

Thanks for listening to my rant... Over, out.

Should always prefer official apple site anyway, why did you try to order with others to begin with when apple can deliver directly?

It was probably not a good move, and I should have known better, but the other sites (serious and well established electronics retailers that I have used for many years) were predicting much earlier dates than Apple themselves. I guess that should have been my warning sign right away, eh?

Anyways, after having waited for almost a month now, I gues waiting another 3 weeks won't change anything. Better than, rather than getting a Gold one now and being unhappy with my bezel for the next 3-5 years.

Is the problem as bad in the rest of Europe, I wonder? I can tell you guys in the states have no issue getting them anymore, by this point in time.

Consider yourselves lucky.

In Brazil, they’re not yet available for sale. Both 2nd gen iPad 12.9 and the new 10.5 are not even on display on the official Apple store.

Yeah.. I considered that, but considering the fact that import tax here in Norway is at around the 30% mark, it would simply not be a lucrative idea to order from the UK. If I were to drop by London, I would have bought it cash myself, just as I did with my iPhone 7 Plus back in the day.

Sorry to hear that, Johnny. Turns out the same happened here, where only a few TENS of exemplars arrived to Norway back in June, and since then, only some 10.5'' and random Gold 12.9'' are available in stores.

Not even in the apple.com/br store? ouch... guess I should be thankful! hehe

Is the space grey model popular because it is the only one with a black front? Yesterday I checked the availability from a big retailer here in Finland and of all the memory sizes, the space grey 12.9 was in short supply or on back order but the others were not.

Same here in the US - I wanted the 256GB SG too, but couldn't find it anywhere. I came across a handful of 512GB SG in store and went ahead and bought one.

Now, they all seem to be sold out here.

I would think so... I keep finding 256GB's in both silver and gold, none in space grey.

And people dare to say the 12.9-inch is barely selling and discontinued, lol. It seems like the 12.9-inch is even more popular than 10.5 after seeing how iOS 11 is going to transform the device.

Only Apple knows how it's selling, it could be they expected it to sell less so they now have a supply issue instead.

Ya the 12.9 Inch model is hard to find. I had a hard time finding a 12.9 256 GB gold but I used istocknow and they have a notification feature where they email you when your local store had it in Stock. Using that feature I found one and I bought it, they were sold out in 30 minutes.

Netherlands is the same. 10.5 space is available but the 12.9 space not. Not in 64, not 256 nor 512. Wifi or cell doesn't matter either.
Odd thing is that I can collect them all in the apple store tomorrow.

[doublepost=1501789811][/doublepost]So as a slight update, I ordered the Space Grey WiFi 256GB a couple of days ago, together with an ASK and an Apple Pencil.

Estimated delivery on the accessories was August 8th, while the device itself has a delivery date of August 21st to 28th.

Well, today I got an email letting me know the ASK and Pencil are on their way and will be here on the 8th or earlier.

Kinda' gives me hope that maybe the IPP might be sent a bit earlier than anticipated as well.

Apple was overwhelmed with unexpected orders for both 10.5 and 12.9”

That screwed up their international roll out and is producing 3-4 week waiting period even in the US, almost 2 months after launch. If they are able to ramp up production, they will sell a ton of iPads in the second half.

Mark my words: over the next 2 fiscal quarters Apple will sell 30 million iPads. That is an average of 5 million per month, similar to the unit sales of Macs per quarter !!!

Nah, I already have a 1st gen 12.9 256 Space and feel no need to upgrade to the 2nd gen.
I did upgrade my 9.7 iPad Pro to a 10.5 512 space and feel that was totally worth it.
(All my ipads have cel, its really convenient for me).

Well, today (08.08) the DHL guy arrived and my ASK and Apple Pencil are here. While they are rather useless without the actual device being here, I am more confident than ever that the Apple dates of the 21st to the 28th will be held, and that after more than a month and a half since my initial order, my IPP 12.9" 256GB WIFI Space Grey will finally be in my hands :)

The ASK feels rather strange to the touch, and the silky feeling and very little movement on the presses will take time to get used to.

The Pencil on the other hand feels a lot bulkier and heavier in hand than what I imagined, which is a really good thing as I love feeling I am holding something, not simply hollow plastic.

Thanks for keeping me entertained here as well as on the subreddit until I finally have this beast in my hands :)

All the apple stores near me had the 10.5 but none of the apple stores near me had the 12.9. Each time apple estimates an in store date the date slips back 3 more weeks just before the date hits. I was waiting for it in store and the date moved 5 times. Finally I just ordered online for delivery because the Apple Store stock was extremely unreliable.

Ya when I bought my iPad last week I used iStock Now and found one store that had some and ordered immediately for in-store pickup & within the 30 minutes it took me to get to that store they were sold out for walk-ins and online purchases for pickup for the 12.9.

As another side note and a little update, the apple site just changed it's expected delivery date from August 21st-28th to August 14th-21st! :D woohoo!

As for the meanwhile, I actually went ahead and ordered me a 29w charger anda 2m long usb-c to lightning cable... can't hurt, right?

Nice!
No, fast charging doesn't hurt, especially when you want to top-up the charge in the 20%-80% range.
It is really much faster there, about 2-3 times as fast!
The first 20% it's a bit more carefull and the last 20% it really slows down to protect the battery.
But even in those ranges it still is a little bit faster.

As a side note though, the older iPad Pro 9.7, is availbale used for a fairly cheap price in Norway. Some even around the price of the 2017 iPad 9.7 (A9x vs A9). I use a 9.7 Pro as my goto device, with the Apple Smart keyboard and it just kicks ass! I considered selling it, going for the 10.5, I am guessing that added screen real estate would be worth is. But this machine is a beast for many of the tasks I do on a daily basis.

Really good to hear! I don't suppose it will make any difference during the weekdays, and I will still mostly use it only while at home and before going to sleep , then charge it fully at night, though during the weekends, I can easily see myself using it for way more than 6-8 hours, and considering I always have all my Apple displays at full brightness, this will definitely come in handy!

Definitely lots of 9.7's and 10.5's floating around here in Norway, and can be easily found at most retailers. When it comes to the new 12.9 though... only a random Silver here and a random Gold there... none in SG at all.

My time is coming though.. and in the meanwhile, I can enjoy staring at this heap of Apple accessories on my desk here, just waiting to the actual device to get put to good use! :D
