I'm looking at a friend's computer -- it has been having extremely slow boot times, so I put an old SSD into it to give it some new life.

However, even with the SSD, boot times are 3-4 minutes on average. (This is a mid-2010 13" MBP)

I booted into verbose my with both his and my computers (mine is a mid-2009, so you'd think it would be slower). My boot time was about 60-90 seconds, whereas his was much, much longer.

I've posted the boot log here. Maybe someone can make sense of it:

I'm looking at a friend's computer -- it has been having extremely slow boot times, so I put an old SSD into it to give it some new life.

However, even with the SSD, boot times are 3-4 minutes on average. (This is a mid-2010 13" MBP)

After you installed the SSD and OS, did you go to System Preferences and in the Startup Disk pane select the SSD as the boot device? If you don't the system spends time searching around for available boot sources and that takes time.

Also, try a command-r boot to recovery and run a Disk Repair in Disk Utility. Does that show any erros?

While still in recovery mode open Terminal from the Utilities menu. Type in "resetpassword" (no spaces) and select your user account from the drop down menu, then click the Reset button at the bottom of the window in the Reset home folder permissions and ACLs section.

Quit the Password Utility and go back to the main recovery screen.

Now hit command-q to quit recovery. See if that helps.

Disk repair doesn't show any errors. Additionally, the old hard drive that used to be in the computer was taking ~10 minutes to boot.

I completely wiped the SSD and reinstalled Mavericks from scratch on it, before installing it inside the computer. Could it be a hardware issue?

Sometimes the drive cable can go bad and it will cause issues like this. Beyond that, I am a bit stumped.

Would something like that show up in the boot logs above? As in -- anything involving a SATA device is taking an extra long time or something, which would provide a clue that that is where the problem lies.

No it is kind of one of those things you need to just swap out to see if it helps. Normally one would try to boot from the same drive in an external USB enclosure to make sure the drive is okay.
