hi all,
ok i have a philips 250Gb usb external HDD, bought new and formatted , set up on my imac, when using on the Imac on boot up the disk mounts fine. however after a few mins it deactivates and sleeps, this is a problem as it hangs when i try to get information from it.

when on the windows XP machine the HDD remains on all the time.

Is there a control panel or something i can do so that the thing will only power off when i set the mac to sleep?

cheers
Darren

Have you tried System Preferences > Energy Saver > uncheck "Put drive to sleep whenever possible"?
